Richard WallaceAmerican commercial artist and advertising executive who resided in Paris for a number of years. Richard William Wallace and Myron Nutting came to the Joyces' aid at Christmas 1920, prompted by Joseph Collins. Born in Medway, Massachusetts, Wallace moved to Chicago to work as an artist in his early twenties. In 1896, he left for Paris. Wallace married Lillian Southern in London in 1913, and the couple returned to Paris before travelling to Capri in 1916 for Richard's art practice. Back in Paris he developed his advertising agency, Wallace and Draeger. He died at Neuilly-sur-Seine, just west of Paris, in 1927. John Simpson
