VPRS 16718 Index to Surveyors' Field Notes and Surveyors' Field Books : Miscellaneous Sequence : O Book

This series was created for two purposes - (1) to manage and control the field notes created by surveyors and (2) to manage and control the field books known as the Miscellaneous Field Books. While in active use this series was known as the O Book. Possibly O stood for ordinary but this is not certain. It is not known why the field books were known as miscellaneous. This series notes the field book and bundle numbers allocated.Section One, pp 9 - 61 (compiled 1879) - Field NoteThis section comprises a record of all field notes relating to registered plans for the years 1874-1875, 1875-1876, 1876-1877 held by the department in 1879. Entries are arranged alphabetically by surveyor and detail date of survey, field note numbers, survey location, brief description. The Field Notes remain in the custody of the Department of Sustainability and Environment as at November 2011.Section Two, pp. 66-111 (compiled 1925) - Miscellaneous Field BooksThis section comprises a record of all the Miscellaneous Field Books held by the Department. Entries are arranged by surveyor and include date, original plan reference (see VPRS 16306 Record Plans), locality, book and bundle numbers and description. Text within the record indicates this section was compiled in 1925.There is an index at the front of the volume 1 by surveyor, refers to page numbers.
