THE ROLE OF GROUP WORK ACTIVITIES IN IMPROVING STUDENTS ENGAGEMENT IN ENGLISH CLASSES

This study examines how group work can help students get more involved in English classes. Engaged students usually participate more, feel motivated, and improve their communication skills and confidence. On the other hand, traditional teacher-centered methods often give students fewer chances to interact and practice English with classmates. Because of this, group work is now considered a useful way to make students more active in their own learning. This research looks at how activities such as discussions, role plays, problem-solving, and group projects help students take a more active role in class. Group work creates a supportive space where students can share ideas, practice speaking, and learn from one another. It also helps reduce anxiety and builds teamwork and social skills. The results show that students who work in groups more often are more interested, motivated, and active in class. Group work also helps them communicate better, think more critically, and perform better in learning English. Still, group work works best when teachers manage the class well, give clear instructions, and make sure everyone in the group participates equally. In summary, group work activities help students become more involved in English classes. Teachers are encouraged to add more interactive and collaborative tasks to their lessons to make learning more engaging and better suited to students’ needs.
