The survey contains three major topics:
1. Attitude to offices and authorities,
2. Attitude to computer technology,
3. Attitude to use of computers in public administration.
Topics: 1. Attitude to offices and authorities: attitude to government
and satisfaction with government services; attitudes to further
government regulation; conducting administrative activities in personal
occupation; frequency and type of contacts with authorities; judgement
on contacts with authorities; detailed judgement on impressions from
contacts with authorities; manner and frequency of search for
information on official matters; type of one´s own difficulties with
trips to government offices; judgement on opportunities to object to
government procedures; personal success in objecting to a government
measure.
2. Attitude to computer technology: technical interest; significance
of technology in personal occupation; word associations with the terms
nuclear power plant, car and computer; direct contacts with a computer;
general effects of computerization on the other areas of life outside
of the working world (scales); image of the computer in the media on
the one hand and in science fiction novels or science fiction films on
the other hand; ability to control computers; assessment of the
usefulness of terminal screen text and videotext as well as bank money
machines.
3. Attitude to use of computers in public administration:
understandability of computerized communications of officials; official
reason for delays by reference to use of computers; assessment of
credibility of such reasons; expected effects of use of computers in
government offices (semantic differential); attitude to dealing of
government offices with information and rights of citizens as well as
extent of government demand for data about citizens (scale).
4. Miscellaneous: general attitude to life and optimism (scale);
satisfaction in selected areas of life (scale); political interest;
fear of loss of job; membership in a trade union; residential status;
possession of a telephone; current or earlier employment in the civil
service.
Demography: age; sex; marital status; religious denomination; school
education; occupation; occupational position; household income;
household size; household composition; respondent is head of household;
characteristics of head of household; respondent is person managing
household; residential status; union membership; possession of
telephone.
