We performed an experiment in which freshwater bacteria from lake Zurich were grown in identical conditions (2 mL of lake bacteria in 200 mL, 20°C, in the dark, in Artificial Lake Water enriched with glucose and cellobiose). 20 microcosms were generated in parallel and shotgun sequenced. We reconstructed metagenome-assembled genomes from each of the microcosms and assessed their functional diversity.
