Coliform bacteria inhabit the gastrointestinal tract of most animals including mice. Enterobacter cloacae are environmental, mastitis- causing pathogens that originate from manure, bedding, and soil. Enterobacter cloacae mostly infect the mammary gland primarily through the exposure of the teat end to moisture, mud and faecal material, and exposure may repeatedly occur. Enterobacter cloacae do not have a predilection for the mammary gland, thus are opportunistic pathogens. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of a multidrug resistant (MDR) Enterobacter cloacae MNH_G6M1H in order to elucidate the genetic diversity, molecular epidemiology, and underlying mechanisms for antimicrobial resistance and virulence in murine mastitis.
