Rice paddy Nitrospirae encode and express genes related to sulfate respiration

In recent years the relevance of dissimilatory sulfate reduction in rice paddy has emerged. In this study, a genome bin putatively belonging to a new Nitrospirae species was retrieved from a rice field soil metagenomic library which encode dsr genes, related to sulfate respiration. This outcome confirms previous reports that suggest the presence of novel sulfate-reducing Nitrospirae species in rice paddies.
