Effect of intense exercise on fecal microbiota after a single dose of milk containing indigestible dietary fibers in healthy adults

A double-blind, randomized, crossover study involving healthy 8 men was conducted. Participants ingested either a milk containing galactooligosaccharide, maltitol, and glucomannan or placebo on the day of the trial 4 hours before performing intense exercise at 75% maximal oxygen uptake for 60 min. Their feces were collected before and after exercise. Fecal bacterial DNA was extracted, and the V1-V2 region of the bacterial 16S rRNA gene was amplified by PCR. 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing was performed using an Ion PGM system.
