Detrital zircon geochronology was employed to analyze the characteristics of sediment provenance at different stages in and on both sides of the Ailaoshan tectonic belt, and to interpret the opening timing of the Paleotethys ocean basin in the Ailaoshan region and the tectonic position of the suture zone as indicated by the provenance differences. The dataset records a youngest peak at ~450 Ma, age clusters corresponding to the Grenville orogeny (1100–800 Ma), and a secondary peak at 2600–2400 Ma.
