Replication Data for: The nature of a populist and radical-right foreign policy: Analysing the Freedom Party’s Participation in the right-wing Austrian Government (SUF edition)

Full edition for scientific use. What impact do populist and radical-right ideas have on a country’s foreign policy? Although research on the nexus of populism and foreign policy has taught us much about populists’ conduct of foreign affairs, we still lack distinctive categories characterising the nature of a populist and radical-right foreign policy. Furthermore, the impact of populist and radical-right parties and their ideas on foreign policy as well as the question of how to measure this impact are still unanswered. This article seeks to address this research gap by examining the populist and radical-right Freedom Party’s participation in the Austrian government from 2017 to 2019, and applying qualitative content analysis to government programmes as well as quantitative text analysis to official press releases. Overall, the article makes three contributions to the literature. First, it proposes distinctive characteristics of a PRR foreign policy conception. Second, it introduces an approach to measure the impact of this conception on a country’s foreign policy. And finally, it determines this impact on Austria’s foreign policy.

本文旨在填补这一研究空白：以2017年至2019年参与奥地利联合执政的民粹主义极右翼政党自由党（Freedom Party）为研究对象，对奥地利政府施政纲领开展定性内容分析，并对官方新闻稿实施定量文本分析。

总体而言，本文可为相关学术领域带来三点贡献：其一，提出了民粹主义极右翼（Populist and Radical-Right，简称PRR）对外政策理念的专属特征；其二，引入了一套可用于评估此类理念对一国对外政策产生影响的分析方法；其三，明确了此类理念对奥地利对外政策的实际影响。
