A new species of Prasophyllum (Orchidaceae) for New Zealand and lectotypification of P. colensoi

A new species of leek orchid Prasophyllum elegantissimum is here described. The new species is segregated from P. colensoi based on genetic and morphological evidence. It inhabits wet grassy areas and wetland margins in the central North Island, South Island, Stewart Island and Auckland Island. The conservation status of P. elegantissimum is ranked Threatened – Nationally Vulnerable. We also designate a lectotype for P. colensoi.
