Molecular identification of indigenous yeast strains for development of yeast extract products

This project, conducted at the National Institute for Genomics and Advanced Biotechnology (NIGAB) within the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) in Islamabad, Pakistan, focuses on the molecular identification of indigenous yeast strains. The primary objective of this research is to isolate and identify native yeast strains with the potential to produce high-quality yeast extract.The project aims to develop a yeast extract derived from these indigenous strains, which can then be utilized in the formulation of growth media and various food products. By leveraging local yeast biodiversity, this initiative seeks to enhance the availability and functionality of yeast extracts, contributing to both agricultural and food industry applications. The successful development of these yeast extracts will support the creation of innovative products and promote the use of indigenous microorganisms in biotechnology.
