资源简介:
The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) Ichthyology Collection was established in 1981. It contains over 41,000 databased lots and about 250,000 specimens including 105 holotypes and over 600 paratype lots. The collection was founded by a significant donation from NT Fisheries, and has subsequently continued to grow through MAGNT field collecting activities, voucher collections lodged by external researchers (e.g. the Arid Zone and JETINDOFISH collections), museum exchanges and public donations. The collection's emphasis is on the marine, estuarine and freshwater fishes of Northern and Central Australia, Southeast Asia and the Indo-West Pacific. One of the collections strengths is the large and diverse holdings of tropical gobies. Most of the collection has been fixed in 10% formalin before being transferred into 70% ethanol for long term storage. Frozen and ethanol-fixed tissue samples matched to voucher specimens have been kept for genetic studies. Specimens can be lent to workers at other institutions upon application and the MAGNT also welcomes visiting researchers.
