Human walk with altered center of pressure

Eleven volunteers walked in different styles along a five meter long walkway with three consecutive ground reaction force plates in its center (here, only the second force plate was calibrated). The walking styles were barefoot, backwards, and handstand walking as well as walking with shoes, planks, and stilts. Backward and handstand walking were performed barefoot. The shoes were sandals, in which a wooden plank (height: 1.5 cm, length and width: as shoes) was put in for the plank condition. For the stilt condition, a wooden pin (height: 5 cm, surface area: 4.5x4.5 cm) with rubber base was attached under the shoe with the plank inside. For each condition kinetic and kinematic data were collected.
