Schoolyards boundaries and land cover Norway

This dataset was produced under contract from Helsedirektoratet with methods documented in this report: https://brage.nina.no/nina-xmlui/handle/11250/3176432

Note: this dataset is a nationally representative sample of schools. It is not designed to be used at county ("fylke") or municipal ("kommune") level. Using the data to make conclusions at other geographic scopes may lead to biased and erroneous results. The user is soley responsible for how the data is used.

There are three data files related to the sample of 370 schools included in the analysis:

schools_boundaries_final.geojson - this is a spatial data file containing the outlines of schoolyards.

schools_lond_cover_final.geojson - this is a spatial data file containing the outlines of the land cover elements within each schoolyard.

schools_metadata_final.csv - this is a spreadsheet containing the metadata for each school, along with the land cover areas and surrounding greenspace areas calculated in the study.

The metadata file contains the following columns:

"id" - the school ID which can be usd to join with the spatial data files. If you remove the suffix 'skl_' then you are left with a number which can be used to join with the national registry of schools found here: https://kartkatalog.geonorge.no/metadata/grunnskoler/db4b872f-264d-434c-9574-57232f1e90d2

"antallelever" - the number of students for the school

"skolekretsID" - the ID of the school catchment area used to calculate population density and then urban/rural/dense-urban categorization.

"pop_dens" - population density within the corresponding school catchment (people per sqaure kilometer)

"urb_rural" - urban/dense-urban/rural categorization

"asfalt/betong"  - schoolyard area of asphalt and concrete in decares

"gress" - schoolard area of grass in decares

"gummifelt/kunstgress" - schoolard area of artificial grass or surfaces in decares

 "sand/stein" - schoolard area of sand or stone in decares

"trær" - schoolard area of trees or bushes in decares

"areaTot" - total area of the schoolyard in decares including buildings and parking

"uteareal" - total area of schoolyard in decares excluding buildings and parking

"surroundGreenSpacePerc" - green space percentage cover within 200m of the schoolyard boundary

"surroundGreenSpaceArea" - green space area in decares within 200m of the schoolyard boundary

"surroundAreaTot"  - total area of surrounding buffer in decares (200m of the schoolyard boundary)
