Whole-blood rna-seq of cattle metaphylactically treated with tulathromycin

To elucidate the connection between tulathromycin metaphylaxis and gene expression over time, eighty-eight commercial steers were enrolled in a study with treatment groups consisting of metaphylaxis at arrival, or a control receiving no drug. Whole blood was collected at various timepoints with Tempus blood RNA collection tubes, and total RNA was extracted and sequenced for differential expression. Overall design: Of cattle which did not present symptoms of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) for the duration of the study, seven of each treatment group were selected for sequencing of whole blood samples collected at days 0 (pre-treatment), 7, 14, and 21. Of cattle which did present for BRD, blood from three tulathromycin and seven control were sequenced from samples taken at day 0 and time of treatment for symptoms.
