Anopheles (Kertezia) cruzii, the main malaria vector in the Brazilian Atlantic forest, is a complex of at least five cryptic species

Our analysis corroborates and extends previous studies, demonstrating that An. cruzii s.l. comprises at least five cryptic species. These results are relevant for understanding malaria transmission in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, as cryptic species may vary in vector competence, as has been observed in the An. gambiae s.l. complex.
