Budding Yeast bir1D Suppressor Screen

More than 100 yeast strains were grown for long periods of time with a dysfunctional CPC. Therefore these strains experienced persistent chromosomal instability. The strains were sequenced using Next Generation sequencing and point mutations in the Dam1-complex, SCF-complex, and MPS1 were found. These point mutations help the yeast cells adapt to loss of CPC function. This is medically relevant because cancer cells are known to grow very well even with persistent chromosomal instability, and it is not yet clear exactly how this is achieved.
