Root-Zone Soil Salinity Observatory Dataset
Root-Zone Soil Salinity Observatory Dataset is a dataset jointly created by Khulna University of Engineering & Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and BRAC, which aims to investigate soil salinity issues in the southwestern coastal regions of Bangladesh. This dataset contains 162 soil sample records, collected from March 1st to 9th, 2024, covering three districts: Satkhira, Khulna, and Jessore. The data collection process strictly complied with the standard operating procedures of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and measurements were performed using the HI-6321 advanced conductivity meter. Visual analysis of the dataset through bubble density mapping and empirical Bayesian kriging interpolation revealed a gradual increasing trend of soil salinity from north to south. This dataset provides a crucial resource for soil salinity-related research, supporting policymakers to better understand and address soil salinity problems in Bangladesh's coastal areas, especially in the fields of agricultural sustainability and environmental protection.
