In this study we investigated changes in effective population size and genetic diversity in hydrothermal vent symbioses that were impacted by the Hunga submarine volcano eruption. These insights are critical to understand how hydrothermal vent symbioses respond to environmental disturbances and will be helpful to create conservation guidelines in the face of imminent anthropogenic pressures, such as deep-sea mining.
