This dataset records the following information for bamboo specimens in the bamboo chemical composition database: Chinese common name, serial number, scientific (Latin) name, ash content at the top, middle and base portions, cold water extract content at the top, middle and base portions, hot water extract content at the top, middle and base portions, 1% sodium hydroxide (NaOH) extract content at the top, middle and base portions, benzene-ethanol extract content at the top, middle and base portions, Kürschner-Hoffer cellulose content at the top, middle and base portions, alpha-cellulose content in the Kürschner-Hoffer cellulose fraction at the top, middle and base portions (chemical composition), lignin content at the top, middle and base portions, pentosan content at the top, middle and base portions, alpha-cellulose content in whole wood (bamboo) at the top, middle and base portions, and origin. Over the 50 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, China has achieved fruitful results in wood science research, particularly in studies on the properties of natural forest woods. The Research Institute of Wood Industry of the Chinese Academy of Forestry and other research institutions have completed research on the anatomical properties of over 900 tree species, the physical and mechanical properties of nearly 300 tree species, the biological properties of nearly 300 tree species, and the chemical properties of more than 100 tree species. In addition, studies have also been conducted on wood physics properties including electrical, thermal, acoustic and fluid-related properties; wood mechanical properties such as cutting, wear resistance, nailing and rheological properties; wood anatomical studies including ultrastructure and computer-aided wood identification; as well as studies on the chemical properties of wood extract components and non-destructive wood detection. The above data provides a theoretical basis for scientific research and rational utilization of wood.
