Abstract Background Healthcare infections becoming a greater concern in hospital healthcare system these are infections that a patient may acquired while receiving care or treatment from hospital these are commonly occurs in immunocompromised patients or patients undergoing surgery, these infection leads to various complications like prolonged hospital stay, increase cost of treatment, may leads to death or other disability. Infection prevention and control. Plays a very crucial role in prevent infection and increase overall patient outcome Operation theatre is one of the high risk area in the hospitals where various surgeries are done during surgery there is high risk of infection due to continuously contact with blood body tissues and organs these infections mainly originates from sources like contaminated instruments improper hand hygiene drains catheter of unsterile etc. a minor negligence in infection control practices can leads to surgical site infection is very common infection occurs during surgery when natural protective skin barrier is brakes through which microorganisms enters in the body area and cause infection that further interfere with wound healing therefore proper infection control practices are important for infection control Infection control comprises numerous technique such as proper hand hygiene, follow aseptic techniques during procedure ,proper preparation and sterilization of instruments, adequate environmental cleaning and proper biomedical waste segregation as safe disposal. Materials and Methods A review of literature was conducted to study the role of infection control practices in preventing healthcare-associated infections in the Operating Theatre. This information was gathered from previously published research papers ,articles, review papers, books and according to guidelines of hospital facilities. Studies related to infection control, hand hygiene, sterilization, aseptic technique, environmental cleaning and surgical site infections were observed. The findings from the selected literature were collected to understand the importance of infection control practices in order to reduce infections in the Operating Theatre and among other healthcare staff. Results The examined studies observed that proper infection control practices in the operation theatre play a very important role in reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections(nosocomial infections) and surgical site infections. These practices comprises Good hand hygiene, proper sterilization and disinfection of instruments, use of personal protective equipment, aseptic techniques, environmental cleaning, and safe waste disposal were commonly used important measures for infection prevention. The literature also proved that poor control with infection control practices can increase the risk of infection. The research also showed that bad control with infection control methods can make infections more likely. Good training, enough checking and following the rules for infection control during different procedures can make patients safer and lower the chance of infections, in the operating room. Conclusion The study concludes that effective infection control practices are important for preventing infections in the operation theatre and also helps in improve patient overall health outcome .Proper infection control measures including wear proper personal protective equipment, hand hygiene ,follow proper sterilization and disinfection protocols, safe waste disposal can help in minimize the risk of infection in operation theatre and other healthcare staff.
