Data for thematic biases in spatial modeling of ecosystem services: prospects for its use in conservation and decision making

Spatial modeling of ecosystem services is a prolific discipline showing an exponential increase in use. However, so far the knowledge gaps have not been characterised from thematic biases, which generates important shortfalls for their application in decision-making scenarios for the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. We aim to describe the changes over time on spatially modeled ecosystem services and its use in biodiversity conservation in the light of scientific literature published. We performed a scientific literature search on this topic, and we found 1727 documents published from 2005 to 2021. Following the change point methodology, we defined two periods (emergent and growth) of productivity among which we compared the type of ecosystem services modeled and the thematic categories of biodiversity conservation.
