Plastic Treaty Negotiation Datasets

This dataset contains ethnographic observations from the first five Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) meetings (INC-1 to INC-5.1) for a global agreement to end plastic pollution. The data were collected using the collaborative event ethnography method, which involves systematic and structured observation of formal negotiations, working groups, and side events. Fieldnotes were recorded in near-verbatim style using a consistent template to capture key contextual features such as speaker affiliation, agenda item, and the content and tone of interventions. The data provide insight into the positions and interactions of state and non-state actors across multiple negotiation rounds.
