Gordonia sputi Lung Disease. A case study

The patient is a 15-year-old female who sought medical attention due to "cough and phlegm for more than a month." Symptoms and Signs: The patient presented with intermittent, irritating cough accompanied by a small amount of yellow-white phlegm. Chest CT scan was conducted revealed a right upper lung infection with abscess formation. Physical examination showed increased vocal fremitus in the right upper middle area, dullness to percussion in the right upper lung, decreased breath sounds in the right upper lung, and no adventitious breath sounds in both lungs. For further diagnosis a right upper lung puncture biopsy was performed, and the pathology of lung tissue showed multiple granulomatous lesions, including Langhans giant cells and necrotic areas, consistent with granulomatous inflammation in the lung, suggestive of mycobacterial infection. Tissue from the original lung puncture was sent for next-generation sequencing (NGS), which detected sequences related to the Gordonia genus, specifically Gordonia sputi. The final diagnosis was Gordonia sputi lung disease.
