Mud turtle (genus Kinosternon) sequencing data

To resolve phylogenetic relationships among taxa within the Southeastern mud turtle (Kinosternon subrubrum) species complex, we performed genotyping-by-sequencing on genetic samples from 41 turtle specimens collected from the range of this species complex as well as from an outgroup (Kinosternon flavescens). Using these data, we identified a deep divergence between Southeastern mud turtles east and west of the Mississippi river. Supported by combined genetic and morphological data, we propose full species status for for mud turtles west of the Mississippi (Kinosternon hippocrepis).
