Some of these males might have moved to a new colony and copulated there, but that seems unlikely. Body mass during mating season = body mass at <=15 April Body mass at first juvenile emergences = body mass when juveniles were first emerging from their natal burrow-entrances Sex partners = number of different females with whom male copulated I consider data from the same male in different years to be independent. Age = age in years since first emergence from natal nursery-burrow For BTPD males and females, I could compare body mass during the mating season with probability of copulation. For UPDs and WTPDs, I also could compare body mass during the mating season with (a) probability of weaning a litter for females and (b) evidence of copulation (observed copulation, or PSDT) for males For GPDs, UPDs, and WTPDs, I assume that EVERY FEMALE copulated every year. I observed very few exceptions to this axiom. Indeed, I am certain of <1-2 exceptions for each of these three species. These data used for Figure 14.7 in Hoogland 2026. Wt = weight = body mass Age = age in years since first emergence from natal nursery-burrow I considered data from the same male in different years to be independent. Body mass during mating season = body mass just before, during, or just after mating season. I defined mating season as the time interval between (and including) the first and the last copulation at the study colony. Body mass at first juvenile emergences = body mass just before, during, or just after the time period when juveniles were first emerging from their natal nursery-burrows. Almost all WTPD males at >=2 years copulated. Yearling WTPD males sometimes DID copulate, but often did NOT copulate. See Chapter 11 of Hoogland 2026. All body masses are in GRAMS.
