ATIS3 Test Data

Introduction ATIS3 Test Data contains the development, test and evaluation material used in the December 1994 benchmark tests in the ATIS (Air Travel Information Services) project. Under the auspices of the Advanced Research Projects Agency Spoken Language Systems (ARPA-SLS) technology development program, the ATIS collection was developed to support the research and development of speech understanding systems. Participants were presented with various hypothetical travel planning scenarios and asked to solve them by interacting with partially or completely automated ATIS systems. The resulting utterances were recorded and transcribed. Data was collected in the early 1990s at five US sites: Raytheon BBN, Carnegie Mellon University, MIT Laboratory for Computer Science, National Institute for Standards and Technology and SRI International. Data Utterances were recorded using a close-talking, noise-canceling head-mounted Sennheiser microphone. For some subjects, secondary (noisier) microphone data was recorded simultaneously. The recorded speech was transcribed and annotated with categorizations and canonical reference answers. This release also contains the ATIS3 46 city/52 airport relational database, a revised Principles of Interpretation document, and test implementation and scoring instructions as well as other relevant documentation. ATIS3 Test Data has been verified, collated and documented by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in cooperation with the ARPA-SLS Multi-site ATIS Data Collection Working Group (MADCOW) and is distributed by the Linguistic Data Consortium.
