Sediment, water, and biofilm samples from streams across northwestern Pennsylvania exhibiting different histories of nearby hydraulic fracturing activity over 5 years. This study aims to survey the aquatic microbial communities to investigate impact of hydraulic fracturing within these ecosystems and to monitor the response of in situ bacterial assemblages. This study provides an examination of long-term potential impacts of such activity and further quantifies the broader impacts of hydraulic fracturing.
