[C4OC] NRM Capacity Building for Indigenous Prison Inmates

This sub project aims to scope the feasibility of, and subsequently train, 40 Indigenous men and women with origins from across WA through a combination of on-ground NRM works with an Indigenous contracting company and in-class training delivered by Durack TAFE over five years. In-mates that successfully complete the training can receive a nationally recognised qualification in Conservation and Land Management.
The project aims to provide prisoners with some employability skills in the NRM field and also provides an opportunity for Indigenous people to get back in touch with their own Country upon their release.
Trainees will be selected according to their attitude and aptitude by project partners Durack TAFE and the Department of Corrective Services (Greenough Regional Prison) from amongst the prison’s low-risk day release low-security section. More than 90per cent of the prison's inmates are Indigenous from all parts of WA.
