The study aimed to elucidate active/living microbial eukaryotes in deep hypersaline anoxic basin halocline sediments by generating pyrotag libraries based on extracted total RNA. The V4 hypervariable region was amplified from cDNA prepared from halocline sediments from Urania, Discovery, and L'Atalante basins, and nearby control (normal saline) sites.
