Environmental attitudes and behaviors of university students in Ecuador

Este conjunto de datos contiene información de 405 estudiantes universitarios recopilada mediante un estudio cuantitativo y transversal sobre actitudes y comportamientos ambientales. La base se encuentra desidentificada y no incluye información personal directa de los participantes. El archivo está compuesto por dos hojas: «Data», que contiene los registros y variables del estudio, y «Códigos», que presenta el diccionario de variables y las preguntas utilizadas. Se incluyen variables sociodemográficas relacionadas con el grupo de edad, sexo, estado civil y área de estudio. Las actitudes ambientales fueron evaluadas mediante 19 ítems organizados en cuatro dimensiones: apatía ambiental, antropocentrismo, conectividad con la naturaleza y afinidad emocional. La base también incorpora las puntuaciones promedio de cada dimensión y una puntuación global de actitudes ambientales. Los comportamientos proambientales fueron evaluados mediante 16 ítems agrupados en eficiencia energética y gestión de recursos, gestión de residuos, consumo ecológico y activismo ambiental. Las respuestas se encuentran codificadas en una escala de tres categorías, con valores de 1 a 3. Las variables sustantivas no presentan datos faltantes. El conjunto de datos se proporciona para favorecer la transparencia, reproducibilidad y realización de análisis secundarios. Dataset Description This dataset contains information from 405 university students collected through a quantitative, cross-sectional study on environmental attitudes and behaviors. The dataset has been anonymized and does not include any information that could directly identify the participants. The Excel file consists of two worksheets: “Data,” which contains the study records and variables, and “Codes,” which provides the variable dictionary and the questionnaire items used in the study. The dataset includes sociodemographic variables related to age group, sex, marital status, and field of study. Environmental attitudes were assessed using 19 items organized into four dimensions: environmental apathy, anthropocentrism, connectedness to nature, and emotional affinity toward nature. The dataset also includes the mean scores for each dimension and an overall environmental attitudes score. Pro-environmental behaviors were assessed using 16 items grouped into four dimensions: energy efficiency and resource management, waste management, environmentally responsible consumption, and environmental activism. Responses were coded using a three-category scale, with values ranging from 1 to 3. No missing values were identified in the main study variables. The dataset is made available to promote research transparency, reproducibility, and the development of secondary analyses. The findings derived from this dataset are currently being prepared for submission to a scientific journal.
