The purpose of this study was to identify genes that may be involved in the regulation of the reproductive transition in flax. We collected tissue from the SAM of 'Royal' flax at 10, 15, 19, and 29 dap and extracted total RNA. Messenger RNA was sequenced using the HiSeq 2500 Illumina platform. Using the data collected from this study we were able to identify a number of putative flowering gene homologs that are differentially expressed between ages, as well as novel/lineage-specific flax flowering genes. The results of this study will provide a template that can be used for further investigations into the control of flowering time in flax.
