Hmong Ethnobotany

This dataset contains data resulting from my doctoral research with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the University of French Guiana. The first file (Database A) provides occurrence data for 760 taxa of plants (most identified to species) resulting from 114 inventory surveys of Hmong farms and gardens in the U.S., France, French Guiana and Thailand conducted by Alexander M. Greene in 2021-2022. All farmers and gardeners on whose properties and plots this data was collected have provided consent for the presence of plants to be recorded, archived and published in academic publications. The second file (Database B) includes the data from these surveys as well as data extracted from 28 published and unpublished sources on Hmong ethnobotany in the U.S., French Guiana, Thailand and Laos and 4 sources on Miao ethnobotany in China. Permission for the analysis and use of unpublished data has been provided by its owners, and details of all sources are provided in an additional tab. This second database contains data on more than 1,600 plant taxa and is likely the largest (although not comprehensive) database on Hmong ethnobotany so far created. The third file (Plant Circulation Event Database) contains 362 events of plant circulation recorded during the surveys.
