These papers relate to the Inquiry under Section 15 of the Coal Mines Regulation Act, 1912, into the conduct of Richard Thomas, Manager, and Joseph Patterson Alexander, Under Manager, at the Rothbury Colliery, held on 29 October to 2 November 1925 at West Maitland Court House before M.H. Cleeve, Police Magistrate.There are some registered papers (mostly Department of Mines Miscellaneous files) as well as unregistered papers, and included are: transcripts of proceedings; plans of the mine, including of the Rothbury Colliery explosion; reports; a list of free labourers engaged for the mine or camp duties; and minute papers. The papers also refer to the riot at the Rothbury Colliery and the death of Mr Norman Brown on 16 December 1929. Most of the papers were numbered in the top right corners from 1 to 285, but their strict order has not been maintained.
