Stephania epigaea Lo is a part of Menispermaceae wildly distributed in Yunnan. It is celebrated for alkaloid as the function of detoxify, calm, relieve pain. The complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of S. epigaea consist of 157,738 bp, which divided into four distinct regions: a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) region of 24,750 bp, a small and a large single copy region (SSC and LSC) of 88,460 and19,778 bp. A total of 130 different genes were annotated, including 85 protein coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 ribosomal RNA genes. The GC content of the whole genome was 36.7%. Phylogenetic analysis of complete chloroplast sequences and specific data sets indicated that S. epigaea is closely related to the species of Stephania japonica.
