The German Internet Panel (GIP) is an infrastructure project. The GIP serves to collect data about individual attitudes and preferences which are relevant for political and economic decision-making processes.<br>The questionnaire contains numerous experimental variations in the survey instruments. Further information can be found in the study documentation. Institutional trust (German Bundestag, German judiciary, German police - experiment); employment status; occupational status; amount of work (dependent employee, self-employed, short-time work); place of work of the main activity (exclusively on-site at the employer´s or client´s premises, predominantly on-site at the employer´s or client´s premises, roughly equally on-site at the employer´s premises and in the home office, predominantly in the home office, occasionally at the employer´s or client´s premises, exclusively in the home office); partner; (occupational) activity of the partner; mother´s occupation between birth and 15 years of age of the respondent; probability of own unemployment in the next 12 months. Probability of own unemployment in the next 12 months; Welfare state: responsibility of the state for sufficient health care; more vs. less expenditure by the state and the statutory health insurance for the health care system; self-assessment of health status; responsibility of the state for sufficient care in case of need for long-term care; more vs. less expenditure by the state or the statutory long-term care insurance for long-term care; responsibility of the state for ensuring an adequate standard of living in old age; more vs. less expenditure by the state and the statutory pension insurance for pensions; preferred statutory retirement age in Germany; Conjoint experiment on the preferred pension amount for a fictitious person with selected attributes (name, income, years of contributions, children, co-provision for partner); preferred options for minimum pension provision; receipt of pension payments in 2020 from various sources (statutory old-age pension or civil servant´s pension, statutory early pension or early retirement benefits, occupational pension, private pension, disability pension / civil servant´s pension due to invalidity, survivor´s pension, benefit for war victims, benefits from long-term care insurance, none of these payments); Contributions made in 2020 to various types of old-age provision (statutory old-age pension, occupational pension, private old-age provision, private occupational disability insurance, life insurance, other old-age provision, no contributions made); responsibility of the state to ensure an adequate standard of living for the unemployed; state should spend more vs. less money on support for unemployed; preferred level of statutory minimum wage; responsibility of state for adequate standard of living for families with children; state should spend more vs. less money on support for families; priority given to cash benefits and tax breaks vs. expansion of childcare in family policy; responsibility of the state for (free) childcare (experiment with different groups of parents); responsibility of the state for equal opportunities between men and women at work; gender-specific values: a woman should be willing to reduce her employment in favour of the family, it is better for the family if the man has a higher income than the woman; Conjoint experiment on the preferred level of short-time allowance in the wake of the Corona pandemic vs. no allowance of short-time allowance; Experiment: Questions on the EU (number of member states of the European Union, current president of the European Commission, number of members of the European Parliament). To answer the questions, the use of additional aids such as the internet was sometimes explicitly permitted, or the question was provided with the request not to use additional aids to answer it, or consent was obtained to answer the three questions without additional aids. Additional variables indicate whether respondents switched windows or browser tabs for the experiment. Internet use to look up the correct answer to one or more of the three questions; answers looked up on the same device of the survey or on a different device; influence of the influx of migrants on the employment status of the native population; certainty about the approximate correctness of the answer given; Experiment on the credibility of scientific studies on the impact of migration on the employment status of the native population; trust in science and research; call for further tax-funded scientific studies on the impact of migration on the employment status of the native population; Standardised Audio and Voice Interviewing (SAVI): general willingness to participate in future surveys via smartphone in order to have the questions read aloud or to give the answers orally via voice input; trust in institutions (German Bundestag, German judiciary, German police); interest in politics; understanding of politics; forming political opinions; recall of answer on trust in the German Bundestag; correct reproduction of answer or estimated answer; certainty of assessment; current emotional state during the Corona pandemic (tension, worry); related to the period of the last seven days: frequency of depressive tendencies (down, depressed or hopeless, little interest in activities); frequency of loneliness; screen time in hours and minutes on an average working day; number of snacks per day; time spent on vigorous, moderate and mild physical activities in hours and minutes per week. Demography: sex; age (year of birth, categorised); highest level of schooling; highest level of vocational education; marital status; household size; employment status; German citizenship; frequency of private internet use; federal state. Additionally coded were: respondent ID; household ID, GIP; person ID (within household); year of recruitment (2012, 2014, 2018); interview date; current online status; assignment to experimental groups. Questionnaire evaluation (interesting, varied, relevant, long, difficult, too personal); overall assessment of the survey; respondent made further comments on the questionnaire.
