1Ddesign-to-response-2.8 - Free-form Antenna Designs with Reflection Responses This dataset is associated with the publication by Bartosz Czaplewski. The article is currently under review. The dataset will be publicly available upon the publication of the article. In this work, a new large-scale dataset of 108,710 samples is introduced, with each sample consisting of a quasi-random, high-complexity free-form antenna design paired with its corresponding simulated reflection response. Antenna topologies were initially generated in a cylindrical coordinate system under constraints ensuring feasibility for EM simulations, specifically continuous metallic shapes without internal voids. Radial distances were randomly sampled within a predefined range, and angular coordinates were defined as relative values in a similar range. The angular positions were obtained by cumulatively summing these relative values, normalizing to span 0–2π, and closing the contour by matching the first and last points. Here, quasi-random means that radial and angular increments are random but bounded. Angular coordinates were further processed to ensure a continuous, ordered progression around the circle, yielding smooth, non-self-intersecting shapes that are polar-convex (i.e., they do not fold back on themselves in cylindrical coordinates). All generated shapes are free of inclusions, and the feed probe location is randomly selected within the contour. The reflection responses for all generated topologies were evaluated using full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulations over the 3-8 GHz frequency range. Simulations were carried out using CST Microwave Studio with an EM solver based on the finite integration technique. In the dataset, each design is represented as a 102-element vector D = [qx, vx, qy, vy], where qx and qy are the coordinates of the feed point, and vx = [vx,1,…,vx,50] and vy = [vy,1,…,vy,50] contain the Cartesian coordinates of the antenna’s 50 vertices. All coordinates lie within the continuous range from –20 to +20, corresponding to the physical antenna size in millimeters (mm). The reflection response is given as a 251-element vector of sampled S11(f) values. Specifically, these samples correspond to reflection coefficients expressed in decibels (dB), i.e., the return loss 20log10|S11(f)|, computed over the 3-8 GHz range with a frequency step of 20 MHz.
