Platelmintos de las Colecciones Biológicas de la Universidad del Magdalena

Los platelmintos son animales invertebrados conocidos como gusanos planos. Habitan en ecosistemas marinos bentónicos (juegan un papel importante como depredadores activos de otros organismos), también hay fluviales, terrestres donde predomina la humedad y especies parasitas. Se han realizado numerosas investigaciones donde se discuten aspectos de sus taxonomía, ecología, genética e importancia económica y médica. Sin embargo, pese a su importancia, en la región de Santa Marta y Colombia en general es muy poco lo que se conoce sobre estos organismos y la literatura es escasa.
Con el objetivo de complementar el conocimiento que se tiene de su biodiversidad y fortalecer las colecciones, se generó la Colección de Platelmintos adscritas al Centro de Colecciones Científicas (CCC) de la Universidad del Magdalena, la cual cuenta con 744 registros biológicos provenientes de diferentes sitios del Caribe colombiano, esto incluye zona intermareal de varias playas de Santa Marta (Magdalena) y zona costera del Archipiélago de San Andrés y Providencia. Los especímenes están depositados bajo el acrónimo CBUMAG: PLAT.
La colección fue fortalecida durante la ejecución del proyecto BID-CA2020-055-NAC \"Incremento de la accesibilidad de información marina de las Colecciones de Historia Natural de Colombia, mediante la movilización de datos, el fortalecimiento de la infraestructura y el entrenamiento\". El presente conjunto de datos es el producto de dicho proceso de actualización realizado entre 2021-07-01 y 2023-06-30, como parte del entregable “Colección de biología marina del Centro de Colecciones Biológicas de la Universidad del Magdalena – CBUMAG”.
Flatworms are invertebrate animals known as flatworms. They live in benthic marine ecosystems (they play an important role as active predators of other organisms), there are also fluvial, terrestrial ecosystems where humidity predominates, and parasitic species. Numerous investigations have been carried out where aspects of their taxonomy, ecology, genetics, and economic and medical importance are discussed. However, despite their importance, in the Santa Marta region and Colombia in general very little is known about these organisms and the literature is scant.
With the aim of complementing the knowledge of its biodiversity and strengthening the collections, the Collection of Flatworms attached to the Center for Scientific Collections (CCC) of the Universidad del Magdalena was generated, which has 744 biological records from different sites. In the Colombian Caribbean, this includes the intertidal zone of several beaches in Santa Marta (Magdalena) and the coastal zone of the Archipelago of San Andrés and Providencia. The specimens are deposited under the acronym CBUMAG: PLAT.
The collection was strengthened during the execution of the BID-CA2020-055-NAC project \"Increasing the accessibility of marine information of the Natural History Collections of Colombia, through data mobilization, infrastructure strengthening and training\". The present dataset is the product of such updating process carried out between 2021-07-01 and 2023-06-30, as part of the deliverable \"Marine Biology Collection of the Biological Collections Center of the University of Magdalena - CBUMAG\" contributed by Unimagdalena to the project.
