The project included a series of centrifuge experiments performed at CU Boulder's Center for Infrastructure, Energy, and Space Testing. The 15 g-ton centrifuge was used to test n=12.5 reduced scale pipelines with enlarged joints that act as anchors in the ground. Axial movement was applied to the pipelines with various geometric variables adjusted to characterize the additional frictional resistance of enlarged joints common in hazard resilient pipeline systems.
