Subglacial Chemical Weathering Proxies

we investigate the spatiotemporal distribution of neodymium isotopic compositions (εNd) in authigenic Fe–Mn oxides from Arctic Ocean and Nordic Sea sediments. When combined with rare earth element (REE) patterns and the chemical index of alteration (CIA), authigenic εNd provides a robust proxy for tracing the sources and enrichment pathways of dissolved Nd, especially those associated with subglacial chemical weathering. These records offer compelling geochemical evidence for a massive ice body on the East Siberian and Chukchi shelves, most likely during the LGM.
