Pacific TIW intensity from observations and model simulation

The repository includes three files. One is the Matlab code (.m) for the shallow water diagnostic model for the TIW (tropical instability waves) surface velocity from altimeter SSH (sea surface heigh). One is the input data (.mat) for the diagnostic model. Last is the estimated TIW intensity from four datasets (.mat), including altimeter-derived EKE (eddy kinetic energy) (1993-2021), in situ mooring-observed EKE (1980s-2020), high-resolution ocean model simulated EKE (1958-2021), and satellite-observed variance of SST (sea surface temperature) meridional gradient (1982-2021). The TIW-associated variability is defined as 60-day and 3000-km high-pass filterred with only westward wavenumbers retained. The EKE and variance of SST meridional gradient are averaged annually from June to February.
