资源简介:
The purpose of an admission register was to record basic details about children admitted to the school, and about their parents or guardians. The registers were also used to record the progress of the children through various classes and the date of their leaving the school. The series from New Lambton South Public School is currently represented by a single composite volume. This volume originally consisted of the first volume of the series, in which were recorded all enrolments from the school’s opening in 1950 until the end of 1953, and all boys’ enrolments from 1954 until the end of 1961. To it has now been added two gatherings from the separate volume in which girls’ enrolments were recorded from 1954 until 1961, these having been removed from their original covers, inserted towards the rear of the volume. This volume contains information pertaining to each pupil including: date of admission; pupil's name, date of birth and religious denomination; name of previous school and date of leaving. The following details are recorded about the child's parents or guardians: name, residence and occupation. The pupil's date of admission to each subsequent grade and date of leaving the school are also recorded. Provision is made to record any occupation entered into on leaving school, but this column is normally used instead to indicate the school to which a pupil may have transferred.Girls and boys are listed on opposite pages in order of admission. In both parts of the volume the numbering of these entries begins anew at the commencement of each school year, and the last two digits of the year number are added to the entry-number as a suffix. In the original volume prior to 1954, separate numbering sequences were maintained for girls’ and for boys’ entries.Admission registers in paper format ceased in 1999 when the department moved to recording enrolment details in electronic format.
