Extreme attitudes are often held with greater certainty than moderate ones. Two studies examined whether perceived success in resisting a persuasive message mediates this relationship. We found a significant mediating effect of perceived success in resisting, suggesting that the path from attitude extremity to attitude certainty is through meta-cognitive resistance.
