资源简介:
Food insecurity has emerged as a pressing public health and academic concern affecting thousands of college students across the United States. At California State University, Chico (CSU Chico), more than half of the student body identifies as food insecure, raising serious questions about how nutritional access may influence student success. This study investigates the relationship between food insecurity and academic performance among CSU Chico students. Guided by critical theory, the research explores how systemic inequalities and socioeconomic challenges contribute to disparities in academic outcomes. Using a randomized sample design and a structured online survey administered via the CSU Chico Qualtrics platform, the study collects nominal and ordinal data on student access to food and academic progress metrics. Statistical methods such as correlation coefficients and intraclass correlation will be used to assess reliability and uncover patterns within the data. The expected outcome is a clear correlation between food insecurity and lower academic performance, demonstrated through reduced class attendance, lower GPAs, and course withdrawal rates. The findings aim to inform targeted interventions and campus resource strategies, contributing to a more equitable educational environment for all CSU Chico students
