VPRS 4825 Index To Inwards Correspondence

The Denominational School Board was established in 1848 and was responsible for the distribution of funds to denominational schools from an annual Parliamentary grant and a proportion of the Church and Schools Estates revenue.This series provides an index to the correspondence received by the Board. Correspondence was initially registered in VPRS 60/P Registers of Inwards Correspondence. At this time each piece of correspondence was assigned an annual single number. Correspondence was then indexed according to either the school from which it was received or to which it specifically referred or by the office or name of the sender of the correspondence (e.g. Bishop of Melbourne or Commissioner of Public Works). The correspondence may be found in VPRS 61 Inward Registered Correspondence.Within the index a separate folio (or page) was allocated to each category. Details given in the Index were the annual single number of the piece of correspondence, the date of the letter and a summary of the subject of the correspondence. Some volumes allow for a notation to be made regarding any reply or cross reference.Volumes in the VPRS 4825 / P1 consignment were previously registered as VPRS 4826/P Church of England and Other Denominations Register of Inwards Correspondence, VPRS 4827/P Classified Subject Register of Inwards Correspondence and VPRS 4829/P Church of England and Other Denominations Register of Inward Correspondence.
