资源简介:
Background: During the pandemic, hundreds of tests were developed, including potentially promising tests using saliva samples and nasopharyngeal swabs. However, these tests had several disadvantages including requirement of instruments, discomfort with nasopharyngeal swabs, and/or long processing times. A simple, low-cost, rapid saliva-based test was developed using test strips that incorporated novel high affinity SARS-CoV-2 binder nanodiscs.
Materials/Methods: This study aimed to produce and optimize test strip components and performance feasibility on archived patient samples. Test strips that have the capability of use in office settings, schools, sports events, and potentially at home were produced.
Outcome/Impact: By leveraging expertise and experience in design and development of medical diagnostics, engineering new binder proteins, and developing SARS-CoV-2 assays, this study addressed the need for a rapid, simple, and inexpensive testing method that could be administered in non-clinical settings.
