New species of genus Laelaps Koch (Acari: Mesostigmata: Laelapidae) associated with of Oligoryzomys flavescens (Rodentia: Cricetidae: Sigmodontinae) in Neotropics: molecular and morphological description. New species of genus Laelaps Koch

In the present study we present diagnostic characters which differentiate a new species Laelaps schatzii sp.nov. consistently associated with Oligoryzomys flavescens from another laelapine mites described for Neotropics. Another aim of this study was to expand GenBank for this area with the first genetic information for the genus Laelaps. We used a non-destructive extraction method to prevent vouchers for further microscopically studies. It is important to supplement morphological characterization with molecular data for describing new species and to extend molecular access worldwide.
