资源简介:
The purpose of this series was to record details of repairs and construction work undertaken on tracks, platforms, buildings and other railway infrastructure. Journal entries indicate private finance for construction work where individuals and companies required freight access to the rail infrastructure. Other entries indicate arrangements for split charges between various sources. These volumes contain entries of shop orders in chronological order by authorised date. Each entry records date authorised; date ordered; particulars of work to be done; estimated cost; charges; and completion details. References to contracts or Commissioner’s files may sometimes be included, as well as sections on personal accounts, mileages, rail duplication works and railway construction notes. Red ink has been used for various annotations through the registers, usually indicating completed work or cancelled orders. An alphabetical index by geographical location is located at the front or back of each volume, which also includes, in tabulated form, description of works; folio numbers; order numbers; and charge details.Custody HistoryFrom 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an ‘in house archives’ consisting of the archival records of the Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000. When the decision was made to close the ‘State Rail Archives’ the parts of the collection that were required as State archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered.This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection where it was identified as series R242. It may have been viewed in the State Rail Archives as series R242 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.
