Saccharomyces cerevisiae IR-2 is an industrial yeast strain obtained from fermented food in 1985. In order to promote its practical application, we have succeeded in separating isogenic strain pairs from the IR-2 diploid strain by iterative inbreeding with deletion of a homothalism gene HO. In addition, a draft genome sequence of strain IR-2idA30 (MATa) was constructed for a genetic engineering to produce various useful compounds such as cellulose ethanol.
